Positive Psychology
Positive Psychology is the scientific study of what makes life most worth living. It is often referred to “the science of happiness’ but positive psychology is an approach that focuses on individuals strengths, positive emotions, and the factors that contribute to a life of meaning and purpose. The aim of positive psychology is to enhance individuals’ life satisfaction and wellbeing through the promotion of positive emotions, such as compassion, self-compassion, self-esteem, self-confidence, and optimism.
Martin Seligman is known as one of the founding fathers of positive psychology. He is author of the book ‘Authentic Happiness‘ and he developed the PERMA model. The PERMA model is a framework that outlines the five essential elements of wellbeing: Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishments. The PERMA model provides a comprehensive approach to understanding and promoting wellbeing, and it is widely used in positive psychology research and practice.
Positive psychology interventions are the techniques and exercises designed to help individuals increase their wellbeing and build on their strengths and positive traits. Some of the most common positive psychology interventions include those that focus on gratitude, mindfulness, meditation, kindness, savouring, resilience, flow and purpose-finding activities. These can be used individually or in combination with other therapeutic techniques to promote overall health and happiness.
Positive psychology masterclasses and online courses can help individuals learn more about the principles and practices of positive psychology and enable them to develop their own positive psychology skills and practices.
